Saint-Symphorien stadium, the main sporting venue of the Metz metropolitan area, is located in Longeville-lès-Metz and is primarily used by the Football Club de Metz. Inaugurated in 1923 after a delay due to a collapse, it has undergone numerous renovations since, notably in 1932, 1953, 1962, 1974, 1976, 1987 and 1997-1998. A new renovation project began in 2019, aiming to increase the capacity to 30,000 seats, with the demolition and reconstruction of the South Stand, completed bringing the capacity to 27,000 seats, and the construction of corners. The stadium has hosted the French national football team on several occasions, notably against Hungary, Luxembourg and Scotland, as well as an international match between Luxembourg and Portugal. It has also hosted concerts by Supertramp, Joe Cocker, Johnny Hallyday and a rugby hopefuls match.
